Juno and The Paycock Review
Greetings Earthlings!
Hey, havn't blogged in a while, midterm was brill! And Katy Perry last night, so tired now though..
Ms Brogan set us a review for our midterm assignment to be posted on our blog :) Its about when we went to see Juno and The Paycock at the Abbey Theatre recently.
Juno and The Paycock was brilliant! It had a great mix of humour tradgedy and action so that i was gripped throughout the whole thing. The talented cast, characterisation, movement and stage direction, lighting and set all combined to make it a great production.
The cast was really good, after reading the play I was doubtfull of whether they would cast the characters to my likiing but five minutes into the production I realised I had nothing to doubt. By far my favourite character was Johnny. He was played by a very talented actor who portrayed Johnnys paranoia very well. He really shone in the scene near the end where he was dragged away by the IRA to be shot. It was very tragic and dramatic.
Another character i enjoyed was Juno, she was a strong mother figure and held the family together through all the challegnes they faced. She is patient, we see this through how long she stayed with "The Captian", Her selfish unemployed husband who spends his days in a snug with Joxer leaving Juno in charge of the home and responsible for earning a living to support the family.
Certain scenes in the Play stuck with me long after it ended, an example of this is the scene where Juno discovers that Johnny has been killed and begins to make plans to leave and raise Marys unborn child with her. Her last words are a monologue where she recitres the words Ms Tancred said when her own son was killed. It is touching and you feel Junos pain.
I also really liked the set. You see their house at the start and how shabby it is, then as they hear news of the will their house starts to become more elaborate and glamorous. The change in set reflects the change in story line and matches the mood. In a practicle element, no piece of furniture or part of the set ever has its back to the audience, it is designed so it can be seen at all angles. The set also helped to make the audience feel more involves, when characters cooked sausages or smoked a pipe, you were able to smell it in the audience which made it more realistic.
I really enjoyed Juno and The Paycock, i think the play reflected the text really well, no major parts were put in or left out and stayed true to the script. It also gave a great insight into life in Dublin in the 1920's.

'The world, is in a state o' chassis'
Greetings Earthlings!
We went to see Juno and The Paycock at The Abbey Theatre yesterday. We started off the day at the William B Yeats exibition in the national library, which was so interesting, we got to see all about his life and early work. We got to see the books where his poetry was origional written which was great.
After that, we went to look at a selection of artifacts which was also in the national library, it was very interesting and had loads of books and posters from the past.
We then got to look in a museum and got to see the Bog Bodies, i didnt like them that much, but i loved the egyption section. We then got a break for a while to get lunch, so of course we went to burger king..
We returned to the rest of the group well fed and excited for Juno and The Paycock, which did not dissapoint, it was a great show and the actors were brilliant. It was funny but also very dramatic, i loved it
So thats it really for today..

JUNIOR CERT RESULTS WOOO!
Greetings Earthlings!
Surprisingly, i have managed not to fail my junior cert. Well thats a shocker..The whole thing didnt go that bad after all, and the mothership was chuffed so thats all that matters eh? I was so nervous though, spent the class before we got the results clutching on to Niamh, and then couldnt open the envelope my hands were shaking so much. But everything was alright in the end :) Seriously, if your doing the junior next year, dont be scared, itll all work out if you put the work in :)
About an hour after i got home the whole thought of the junior cert was out of my mind completely! Seemed like months ago i got my results, from then i was just exited for going Time for junior night with most of the people from celbridge. It was brilliant, everybody was celebrating and having a good time :)
So thats really all for Junior Results, its crazy how something i stressed about for so long feels like years ago now! So im gonna go now, my geography projects waiting for me..

"Arlingford"
Greetings earthlings.
Just returned from a smashing trip at the carlingford adventure centre. It was great fun it was!
At first i thought the lazer tag was gonna be the best part of my trip, then i came home and realised there was boys in the common room downstairs! We had a lovely dinner of sausages and chips, and then went back to do the nightline. We then came back and had free time for 2 hours where we got chatting to the boys, a few could play guitar and we had a big jam session downstairs. Everyone was up singing and it was great craic all together! But we got bored and orla went out to the courtyard and showed us her brilliant modelling skills! I was amazed at how much of a diva stunnah she was :O
Later on that night there was a fireshow. One of the instructers, his name was luke, did it for us. It was amazing! We then went back to our room had some chinese some sweets and stuff. We stayed up having the bant the whole night.
The next morning we went down to do orienteiring, where we hiked up a mountain trying to find stuff on a list. Oh dear i was in pain afterwards. We then went and did rockclimbing and absailing, i didnt like that that much though because i dont like heights :L
Yeah so afterwards we said our goodbyes and went home..Tired and anxious for the results that lay ahead.
